Other than the items listed, I dabble in music and writing.
I started my writing "career" in Jr. High School, and had some short stories published in a teacher's
magazine. I then started doing music reviews for the High School paper. This led to me being co-editor of the
school paper my senior year. I have been encouraged to write professionally, and was even approached by a major
publishing house to write a book on Gif Animation. I turned it down, but hope someday to be able to find the time
to actually write the "Great American Novel". In the meantime, I have here a short story about my furry
friend called "Like A Kitty".
I used to play guitar professionally in a Rock 'n' Roll band, then in a folk group. All told, I played guitar for
about 15 years. I don't have the time to do so any more, but the music is still in my blood. I have attempted
composing midi files. Using only the "QWERTY" computer keyboard, I put together a few midi songs.
I have bought a real midi keyboard since these compositions, but find the transition from guitar to piano keyboard
daunting.
My very first attempt was a jazz composition that had as many false starts and stops as my "Jam Sessions"
with strange musicians in real life. I call it Jazz Jam. This was a first take, with no
editing at all. My next attempt had a bit more cohesion to it, and I called it Badger Jazz.
My next one was an attempt at something more complex, but it only seems to sound right on a SoundBlaster AWE card using
a GS Midi sound bank. It is called Für Kym. My last attempt was a very strange song
called Bossa1. My midi skills are the weakest of my talents, but given time and my piano teaching
software, I may someday improve.
